Reginald "Reggie" Brumbach Freeman, Jr. passed away peacefully after a long illness at the age of 95 on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community in West Columbia, SC. He was born in 1928, in Hertford County, NC, to Reginald Brumbach and Sadie Myers Freeman. He was a graduate of Ahoskie High School and earned an associate degree in Business at Campbell College.
In 1952, he married the love of his life, Sara Jane Benson, who preceded him in death by less than 24 hours. Also preceding him in death, were his sisters Miriam Freeman Rawl of Columbia. SC, and Penelope Freeman Ware of Colonial Beach, VA. He is survived by his sister Betsy Freeman Skipper and children Michael Benson Freeman (Joanie), Richard Myers Freeman (Denise), Jane Simpson Freeman, and Amy Freeman Wilson (Ben), seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Reggie dedicated his life to business development, first as a regional sales representative for the Stetson Hat Company, then as a Recruiter for Midlands Technical College. He served for many years in the South Carolina National Guard. He loved family and travel and had a lifelong passion for learning particularly—all things history. His greatest asset was his personality and wonderful sense of humor. After retirement, Reggie exercised his mastery of communication as a volunteer Docent for the Columbia Historical Society. He was a member of Shandon Presbyterian Church for many decades, where he served as Elder, Deacon, Usher, and a member of the Hardin Sunday School class.
