

COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Richard Anthony Fling, U.S. Army (Ret.), 68, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 25, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Mr. Fling died Wednesday, January 20, 2016. Born in Columbia, he was a son of Jane Regal Fling and the late John Fling. He retired as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army, having served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He graduated from Columbia High School and Midlands Technical College and retired from the S.C. Department of Social Services. He was an avid wrestling fan. A loving husband and father, he loved people and continued in his father’s footsteps serving people. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Miriam Smith Fling; son, Richard Anthony “Tony” Fling II (Lauren) of Blythewood; daughter, Sarah Nicole Fling of Columbia; and brother, John Fling Jr. (Amy) of Columbia.
