

Longtime Shandon resident Sarah Frances Beckham, 82, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed peacefully before sunrise on April 24, 2022. She was born on April 11, 1940 in Newberry, South Carolina to Amon and Thelma Beckham. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Dr. Mack Beckham, and sister Joanne Beckham Rivers and the love of her life, Earle Sligh with whom she was a member of Shandon Presbyterian Church.
Sarah graduated from Dreher High School and later earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science from the University of South Carolina. Sarah owned and operated Beck’s Snack Bar at the old S.C. State Farmer’s Market from 1977 to 1997, a family business started when the farmer’s market on Assembly street. She then worked for the Richland County Public Library until she retired. She also enjoyed painting and writing in her spare time, and had several articles published in local newspapers and magazines.
Sarah is survived by her niece Margie Smith (Vince), nephew Phil Hedrick (Robin), Joel Beckham (Sue), niece Heather Beckham-Clark, niece Romy Beckham Mahoney, cousin Barbara Mack Hanna and many grand-nieces and nephews, along with her beloved cat, Jack. Sarah was blessed to be loved and cared for by family friends Brittany Lakes and Tommy Dodds.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memories may be shared at www.dunbarfunerals.com.
