Ms. Stover died Thursday, February 5, 2026 after a long illness. Born in Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of the late Henry Russ Barnes and Elaine Player Barnes. She graduated from Spring Valley High School and Columbia College.
Ms. Stover will be remembered for her bubbly personality, eccentric spirit, and creative, thoughtful nature that left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She studied dance and taught for a short time, but she most truly reveled in her role as a devoted and loving mother. A passionate animal advocate, she shared a deep and special bond with her faithful companion, Hawkeye, who meant the world to her. In her free time, Ms. Stover found joy in attending live music events with her beloved friends and immersing herself in Columbia’s vibrant music scene, where her love for creativity and connection shone brightly.
Surviving are her two daughters, Emily Brennan Gregg and Sidney Leigh Stover of Atlanta; three grandchildren; and lifelong friends, Kim Cork Williams, Rebecca Salley Fincher, and Amy Rosborough Lytle.
Ms. Stover was grateful for her dear friend and trusted advisor, Van Hobbs, as well as her devoted caregivers, Fannie Dorch, Betty Dorch, and Elyse Decker, whose compassion, kindness, and care brought comfort and support during her journey. Through her love, creativity, and thoughtful spirit, Ms. Stover leaves behind a legacy of warmth and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
