Terri Thomas Younginer, affectionately known as "Mimi," passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 28, 2024. Born in San Antonio, Texas, she was the daughter of Colonel Tommy Thomas, Sr. and Catherine Stringer Thomas, who preceded her in death.
A memorial service for Ms. Younginer will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Terri’s early years were marked by her family’s military background. She lived in Texas, Germany, Japan, Arizona, North Carolina, and numerous other locations due to her father’s Army career. The family moved to Columbia in 1991 and Terri quickly decided South Carolina would be her home. She was a member of Shandon Presbyterian Church and attended The University of South Carolina. Terri was employed as an Instructional Aide for students with disabilities at A. C. Flora High School. She cherished her students and the many friends that she worked with daily. You could often find her volunteering extra hours to help in other areas of the school. One of her favorite activities was accompanying her students to Special Olympic events both locally and at the state level. Her dedication to others was inspiring and touched many lives.
Terri was a devoted mom, Mimi, sister, aunt, and friend. Her family brought immense joy to her life, and she took great pride in all their accomplishments. Terri’s warmth, love, and spirit will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Amy Colgate (Jamie), her son, Adam Younginer, granddaughters, Madison Mims Colgate and Caroline Colgate, brother, Tommy Thomas, Jr. (Monica), niece, Marianna Thomas, nephew, Matthew Thomas (Lauren), and great nephew, Tyler Thomas.
