With deep heartbreak, we share the passing of our beloved brother, son, and friend, Patrick Monahan, affectionately known to everyone as “Mr. P.” He left us far too soon on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the age of 44.
Born with an easy smile and a joyful spirit, Mr. P filled every room with energy, humor, and a laugh that could pull anyone out of a bad day. He was an athlete through and through—a natural competitor and the MVP of every team he ever played on. At Cardinal Newman High School, he shined as a varsity standout in both basketball and baseball, earning the admiration of coaches, teammates, and the community.
His love of sports never left him. Mr. P was a proud fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Carolina Gamecocks, and he followed every season. His baseball journey began early; playing at the Carolina Children’s Home, where he developed many of the friendships and memories that shaped him for life.
Some of his happiest memories were on the beaches of Hilton Head Island, where his legendary summer tan earned him the nickname “The Tan Machine.” He treasured time with his beloved Grandfather Dae, a bond he carried proudly throughout his life.
Mr. P had a big heart--steady, loyal, and kind. His warmth, humor, unwavering loyalty, and the light he brought to others will always be remembered.
He is survived by his father, Tom Monahan; mother, Ellen Monahan; siblings, Kelley Monahan Prust, Tessa Monahan, Kyle Monahan and his wife, Katie Monahan; his nieces and nephews, Seth Prust, Bailey Prust, Jackson Prust, Tinsley Failor and Eleanor Monahan; the Monahan Clan, Kate Monahan Mullen, Mike Mullen, Jill Mullen, Margaret Monahan Bopp, Roland Bopp, Katherine Bopp, Christopher Bopp, Kevin Monahan, Dan Monahan, Cheryl Carter, Ryan Monahan, and Jenn Monahan; the Easterby Clan, Jimmy Easterby, Betsy Easterby, Jack Easterby, Holly Easterby, Stephen Parrish, Katherine Easterby Parrish, and their children; and countless former teammates and friends
We will forever hold him close in our hearts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2025, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Columbia, S.C., where friends and family are invited to gather and remember the beautiful, unforgettable person he was. A reception will follow at the Palmetto Club.
Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Gifts can be made in honor of Patrick Monahan to the University of South Carolina Gamecock Club, 1304 Heyward Street, Columbia, SC 29208.
Rest easy, Mr. P. Thank you for the laughter, the loyalty, the fun, and the love.
You will never be forgotten.
