COLUMBIA Funeral service for Kenneth Abernathy, 85, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. Mr. Abernathy died Thursday, January 1, 2015. Born in Elkmont, Ala., he was a son of the late Van Oneal and Timie Lerlean Browning Abernathy. He retired from the U.S. Army after 30 years of service. He was a member of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church and the Officer’s Club at Ft. Jackson. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Abernathy; brothers, Willard Abernathy (Jeanette) and Billy Abernathy (Shirley); numerous nieces and nephews.
