
Evelyn was born in Westminster, Mass. on July 13, 1917, the daughter of Leslie and Florence (Newell) Gilman.
She was raised and educated in Randolph Center, Vermont. After graduating from high school she moved to Concord, New Hampshire and graduated from Concord Business College. She was married on June 9, 1940, to David H. Dimick. He predeceased her on November 22, 1987.
She started her career as a bookkeeper for the Orr and Rolfe Plumbing and Heating Company in Concord. She was also employed for twenty years by the Concord School District as a secretary at the Rundlett Jr. High School. After retiring, she continued to work for the school district in the food service department selling lunch tickets. She was a long time member and past officer of the Merrimack Valley Retired Educators Association as well as a sixty-four year member of the South Congregational Church.
Evelyn enjoyed gardening, knitting, oil painting, baking and reading. She especially liked spending time with her children, granddaughters, great-grandson and extended family members in New Hampshire, Vermont and Maryland. She looked forward each year to spending a vacation with family either on the coast in North Carolina or at York Beach, Maine.
Survivors include her son, James L. Dimick, and his wife, Edie, of Bow; her daughter, with whom she resided, Linda A. (Dimick) Labbe of Concord; four granddaughters, Jennifer Labbe, Laura (Dimick) Bonner, Susan (Dimick) Stone and Jill (Labbe) Mulvey; and one great-grandson, David Mulvey; her sisters, Alice Adams of Perkinsville, Vermont and Helen Moore of Springfield, Vermont; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Marjorie E. Wilk and her brother, Arthur N. Gilman.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 16, 2010, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., Concord. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at 10:30 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at the Blossom Hill Cemetery.
