
George C. Douglas passed away peacefully on October 1, 2016 at Concord Hospital with his family at his side. George was born on April 5, 1919 in Boston, MA, the son of George and Nancy (Chickering) Douglas.
After graduation from Boston Latin High School and the University of Massachusetts he entered World War II as a member of the 12th Armored Division Hellcats. He received the Bronze Star as he fought his way into Germany. A very humble man and true member of the Greatest Generation, George left the Army as a Captain, declining a promotion so he could spend his life with his childhood sweetheart who he married before he was deployed.
George settled in Walpole, NH and with his wife Marian and new baby daughter, Judy began his wonderful life. Two sons, Rob and Mark were to follow and many new friends.
George spent his entire career in the insurance industry and retired from Peerless Insurance Co. as Executive Vice President. He loved his work and the people he worked with.
George spent most of his adult life in Walpole, Keene, NH and Venice, Florida. He loved his family, his friends and his life. Those who knew him will not forget George.
George was predeceased by his daughter, Judy; his sisters, Helen Chickering Ashmore and Evie Trask and his wife, Marian (Hebb) Douglas.
His family members include his two sons, Robert C. Douglas and Mark A. Douglas and his wife, Frances; four grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren and one great great- grandson.
Calling hours will be held at Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St. Concord, on Friday Oct. 7 from 5 pm to 7pm.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cedarcrest Center for Children with Disabilities, 91 Maple Avenue, Keene, NH 03431, in memory of Judith Anne Douglas.
