

Janet Katherine Hertzberg, born Nov. 29, 1939, died November 13, 2025 in Concord, NH, at Havenwood Heritage Heights at age 85. She was the daughter of Ruth Densmore Hertzberg who was the author of Putting Food By and Thure Axel Arthur Hertzberg who created the model of Fort Dummer for The Brattleboro Historical Society.
She was born in Portland, Maine, and grew up in Brattleboro, Vermont, graduating from Brattleboro Union High School in 1958 and Colby College in Waterville, Maine, in 1962, cum laude, as a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
She had a career as a mathematics teacher starting in Winslow, Maine, moving to Ledyard, Connecticut, then to U. Maine, Orono, where she received a Master of Arts in 1974. She then became a professor at NHTI Community College in Concord, NH, for 28 years.
She loved the theater and participated in plays, concerts and musicals starting in grammar school, always explaining that her classroom work was merely rehearsal for performances.
Her participation in singing groups the Concord Chorale and the Concord Vocal Octet led to many venues, notably concert tours to Israel, all over continental Europe and the British Isles, New York City and Chicago.
She enjoyed trips to Lake Sebago and Kennebago and learned to roll a Kayak in her sixties.
She was predeceased by her parents and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her long-time companion Shelley Lochhead and her cousins Connie Densmore of Yarmouth, Maine, and Marsha Densmore of Portland, Maine.
