
HOPKINTON, NH -- Matthew John (Matt) Miles, 86 of Hopkinton, NH, died September 1st of acute leukemia. He was surrounded by his family who adored him. Born March 6, 1935 in New York City, Matt graduated from Fordham Prep going on to Nichols Junior College and graduating from American University where he met Margaret A. Miles his beloved wife of 64 years. In addition to working as a medical underwriter for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for 31 years, Matt served in the National Guard from 1953 to 1961.
A skilled golfer, Matt represented MetLife in tri-state golf competitions often bringing home a win for the team. Sharing his love of basketball, Matt coached youth basketball groups while a resident of Old Greenwich, CT. Although an avid fan of the NY Giants football team for years, when he moved to Hopkinton fifteen years ago to be near his daughter’s family he also started rooting for the Boston Patriots.
Matt is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Elizabeth Miles Reese and her husband Sean, and his two granddaughters Megan Bethany and Skye Victoria. With his big heart that he shared freely with his family and friends who loved him so deeply, he leaves behind a legacy of humor, patience, kindness and gentleness.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Matt’s memory to two very special organizations: Road to Independence (https://www.rti-aurora.org/), a non-profit pre-vocational training program for individuals with differing abilities and The March Forth Foundation, Inc. (https://marchforthforjoe.com/ whose mission focuses on individuals under the age of 25 residing in the tri-state area – those in need of guidance, mentorship, or financial support to achieve success in their fields of passion.
