The fifth of six children of Charles and Bernice Morrill Heath, Millie was born in Boscawen, NH and grew up in Franklin NH. There she met the love of her life, Tom Cushing, at Franklin High School. Tom and Millie married in 1946, shortly after he returned from serving in the Pacific in World War II. Their relationship spanned almost 75 years, including 68 years of marriage, before her beloved passed away in 2014.
During those years Tom and Millie attended the University of New Hampshire and raised four children in Bethesda MD and Bedminster NJ. Tom's international career allowed them to see the world, but Millie kept the home fires burning. Once the children were grown, they enjoyed spending winters at their home in Hobe Sound, FL and summers in Hopkinton NH, where they welcomed many visitors, especially their grandchildren.
During her lifetime, Millie endured many challenges but never lost her courage, her optimism, or her faith. Known for her plain-spoken wisdom, she always called things as she saw them. Her love for and loyalty to her family never wavered.
An accomplished watercolor artist, Millie's works were always in demand and will continue to bring delight to their beholders long into the future. She brought her artistic eye to bear in her other great passion, flower gardening. Her prize-winning flowers and beautiful gardens were always a joy to behold.
In addition to her husband, Millie is predeceased by her sons John and Billy. She is survived by her daughter Catherine, son David, and her three grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the William T. Cushing Memorial Scholarship Fund at the University of New Hampshire.
