Robert J. “Bob” Cassavaugh, 96, of Penacook, passed away on June 6, 2025, at the Merrimack County Nursing Home, surrounded by family. He was born in Concord, NH on April 6, 1929, as the only child to his late parents Robert F. and Elizabeth (Higgins) Cassavaugh. Bob graduated from Penacook High School with the Class of 1946.
Shortly after graduation, Bob enlisted and proudly served in the Navy for two years. Upon his discharge, he attended Concord Community College. Again, feeling the call to service, like so many of his generation, Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1949. The Air Force took him to Northern Africa for a year and a half, and his last year in the service, he was stationed at Sampson Air Force Base in New York. While stationed in New York, his wife Corinne was able to join him. They were married in 1952. After his honorable discharge, he and his wife settled in Penacook to raise their family as “busy and proud” parents of four sons.
Bob wore many different hats, he was a son, a veteran, a husband, and most importantly a father and family man. He volunteered as the accountant for the American Legion Post 21 and worked for the United States Postal Service retiring after 30 years of service as a rural mail carrier. Bob was at his happiest attending his children’s, grand children's and great-grandchildren’s events. He was also an avid Boston sports fan faithfully watching the Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots.
Bob sadly leaves his wife of 73 years, Corinne L. (Boudreau) Cassavaugh, also of Penacook, and his four sons; Edward Cassavaugh, Peter Cassavaugh and his wife Sharman, Joseph Cassavaugh and his wife Ana, and Michael Cassavaugh. He is also the proud grandfather to Daniel Cassavaugh, Miki Steenbeke, Katie Bennette, and Brittany Bullock and great-grandfather to his nine great-grandchildren; Emma, Walker, Leigh, John, Reese, Colton, Ledger, Mac and Russell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by many cousins and friends. He will greatly be missed, cherished, and loved by all.
The Cassavaugh family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at the Merrimack County Nursing Home, especially those who work on the Secure Care Unit. They took excellent care of Bob for the two years he resided there.
Services for Bob will be held at a later date. Please consider donating in Bob’s memory to the Merrimack County Nursing Home, 325 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH 03303.
