Todd was a huge Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins fan, and he loved chocolate cake; the Towering Midnight Fudge Cake at the 99 Restaurant was his favorite. He was also one of those socially extroverted people who excels at connecting with others. That he was so outgoing is even more impressive because he did not speak, used a wheelchair, and needed support throughout his day due to his cerebral palsy. Communicating and connecting with others without speaking is one of many lessons he taught us.
Being around Todd was incredibly fun. We all are going to miss the sparkle and excitement of that smile that seemed to take up his entire face. We hope we never forget it. If you knew Todd, you likely were drawn to him because of that smile. Todd was much more than that smile, though. He had a knack for connecting with people. He developed specific greetings, individualized handshakes, and inside jokes with almost everyone he met. Part of the fun of being with Todd also resulted from figuring out how he would participate. Sitting in his wheelchair, he made a formidable street hockey goalie- and one that laughed while stopping shots. Going sledding was double the fun because he had to ride in the sled up the hill as well as down. Hanging out at the beach, watching the Red Sox and Bruins on TV, and being at a family holiday or birthday party were that much more fun with Todd because of his enjoyment, his engaging looks, and his infectious laugh.
Todd lived a meaningful, engaged, and full life. Todd played a central role in our family, quite literally being in the middle of every group picture of us and featuring prominently in all of our best and funniest memories. He left us too soon, but it is helpful knowing that he will no longer struggle for that next breath.
