In addition to his parents, Bert was preceded in death by brother- in-laws, Ronnie Rummage and Lynn Yow.
He was in the U.S. Army from January 1968 to August 1969 and served in the 82nd Support Battalion in Vietnam.
Bert was a loving brother and uncle. He enjoyed collecting comic books, baseball cards, trading cards, and antique memorabilia. Bert was an avid movie buff, especially the classics and above all a passionate Carolina Tarheels Fan.
Those left to cherish Bert’s memory are sisters, Vicki Rummage, Bobbye York (Michael), Terry Yow; brother, Robert Johnsen (Susan); and numerous special nieces and nephews.
Bert will lie in state on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 1pm to 3pm at Drum Funeral Home Chapel, 509 1st Ave South, Conover, NC 28613.
A Graveside Service with military honors will be held at 1pm on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28144.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to an animal rescue or shelter of choice.
