

Bobby Oscar Herman, age 79, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born April 14, 1935 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Oscar Vance Herman and Catherine Teague Herman. Mr. Herman served 5 ½ years in the U. S. Army. He retired from General Electric Company after 18 years and then worked at Abernethy Laurels of Newton. He loved His Lord and was a member of the former Starmount Baptist Church in Newton. Mr. Herman stayed busy, enjoyed the outdoors and loved his family and friends. He enjoyed restoring old vehicles, motor sports and gardening.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Herman was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Reba Rash, and three grandchildren.
Mr. Herman is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sandra Christopher Herman, of the home; sons, David Smith Herman of Belmont, Randy Herman and wife, Lisa, of Hickory, Bobby J. Herman of Newton; daughters, Diane King of Newton, Ann Brackett of Lowell, Annette Readling and husband, Bill, of Charlotte; one grandson, Ethan Herman of the home; fifteen other grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Betty Ballew, Dorothy Lail, Brenda Wilson, Geraldine Hoyle; four brothers, Wayne Herman, Dwight Herman, Rayford Herman, and Gene Herman.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, June 2, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Conover with Rev. J. D. Grasty and Rev. Darrell Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Greater Faith Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 prior to the service at Drum Funeral Home.
