

Born November 17, 1917, in Richmond, KY, she was the daughter of the late Wright McCelland Hamilton and Hazel Sarah Asbell Hamilton Walburn and step-father, George Emerson Walburn. Dorothy attended Huntington High School and Marshall University, both in Huntington, WV. She was the oldest member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ in Conover, a member of both the Sharon Garden Club and Iris Society in Charlotte, NC. Dorothy served as a judge for the Mecklenburg County Flower Show. She was a former member of Carmel Country Club in Charlotte, Catawba Country Club in Hickory and Lake Hickory Country Club in Hickory. Dorothy was a member of the Homemaker Bowling League where she served as treasurer for 35 years. She was a member of local church circles and bridge clubs. Dorothy enjoyed tennis, golf, bowling and bridge, but her primary role was homemaker, wife and mother. For 51 years, she was a resident of Conover, NC.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Richard Graves and a son, George “Chip” Asbell Graves. Dorothy created a scholarship fund in their memory which to date has provided educational funds for 29 recepients.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Danny Lawrence Graves of Conover.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ with Rev. Peggy Stout officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. on Friday prior to the service.
