

Mark was the son of the late Jack and Janet Carter.
Mark graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College in 1977 where he majored in education and played on the basketball team. He went on to a prominent 30 year career in education where he served as a high school social studies teacher and a beloved coach. Mark’s successful coaching career included time at Hallsboro High School, Bunker Hill High School, East Mecklenburg High School, West Iredell High School and Newton Conover High School. He served as the leader for the 9th Grade Academy at West Iredell High School. Mark made a lasting impression on the students and athletes he worked with throughout his career.
Mark is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Dana, of the home; his son, Landon and future daughter-in-law, Sarah McElveen of Raleigh; one brother, John Carter and his wife, Barbara of Hickory.
A memorial service honoring and celebrating Mark’s life will be held at his and Dana’s home on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 4:00 p.m. Anyone wishing to offer reflections at that time are invited to do so. The celebration will continue with food and fellowship for all who can join.
