Mary Smyre Link

Mary Smyre Link, 83, of Conover, went home to be with the Lord Friday, July 19, 2013, at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton. Born January 11, 1930, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Macie Smyre Heafner. Mary was a member of Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church until her marriage to Grady Link April 7, 1950, when she joined Beth Eden Lutheran Church in Newton. She loved gardening, flowers, family, and most especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Grady Link.

She is survived by her daughters, Teresa Link Birchfield and husband, Sam, of Conover and Kathy Link Binkley and husband, Tim, of Newton; brother, Jake Heafner and wife, Linda, of Catawba; sister, Betty Wilson, of Newton; grandchildren, Tara Boston, Doug Birchfield and wife, Suzanne, Crystal Pries and husband, Peter, Rachel Heck and husband, Austin, Adrienne Binkley and Madison Binkley; great-grandchildren, Kira Sigmon, Kayla Ashby, Kilee Vance, Abbi Hammond, Owen Hammond, Noah Birchfield and Madelyn Birchfield; and sister-in-law, Brenda Harbinson and husband, J.W., of Newton.

A Service of Remembrance will be held Monday, July 22, at 11 a.m. at Beth Eden Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Marcus Ollis officiating. A private burial will be held at Conover City Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service on Monday at the church, and at other times at the Link residence.
