Pearl Deal Brown

Born June 28, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Millard Perry Deal Sr. and Bertha Lavinia Deal Deal of Hickory. She was a lifelong resident of Catawba County and a graduate and valedictorian of St. Stephen’s High School. Pearl was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Hickory. She was a long-time member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Claremont where she taught Sunday School for many years, sang in the choir and was a member of LWML. Pearl was a devoted and loving wife, mother and homemaker. Pearl met her best friend and soul mate, Jack, and they were married June 2, 1950. Pearl and Jack shared 64 beautiful years together and what a wonderful life they had. They enjoyed the outdoors and hiking and had a great passion for the study of wild flowers. Pearl and Jack enjoyed snow skiing and were still skiing the NC Mountains well into her 70’s. Pearl loved God’s word and studying her bible. Jack and Pearl shared a very special life together and made many great memories to cherish. Spending 64 years together takes a very dedicated love and also a great respect for each other. They were wonderful role models to their family and anyone that had the privilege to know them.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter; brothers, Millard Perry Deal Jr., Armon Howell Deal; sisters, Edith Deal Morrison, Elaine Deal Merritt, Martha Deal Cline; twin granddaughters, Marla and Carla Brown.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 64 years, Jack Daniel Brown of Claremont; children, Douglas Randall Brown and wife, Jill, of Claremont, Donna Brown Brown and husband, Ronny, of Catawba, Kevin Leslie Brown, and his wife, Suzanne, of Raleigh; grandchildren, Shawn R. Brown, Mayor of the City of Claremont, and his wife, Angela, of Claremont, Patrick Brown and friend, Brittany Crowe, of Claremont, Emily Lacroix and husband, Chris, of Richmond, VA, Leah Early and husband, Bryant, of Conover, Andy Brown of New York, NY, Colleen Brown of Raleigh, Ian Brown of Raleigh; great-grandchildren, Lindsey Elrod, Jackson Brown, Matthew Early, Jacob Early, Vivian Lacroix; sister, Ruth Deal Jones of Hickory; sisters-in-law, Edna Brown of Claremont, Mabel Brown of Hickory, Yvonne Brown of Starke, FL, Sallie Deal of Martinsville, VA, Catharin Deal of Hickory; numerous nieces and nephews.

Her family will receive friends from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Bethel Lutheran Church.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Mike Ramey, Rev. Eric Hollar, and Rev. Craig Schultz officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Shawn R. Brown, Patrick Brown, Andy Brown, Bryant Early, Chris Lacroix, and Grady Deal.
