

Richard Franklin Sigmon, age 77, of Newton, went home to be with his heavenly father on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born January 5, 1935, he was the son of the late Luther Robert Sigmon and Edna Parlier Sigmon, and step-mother, Adalea Sigmon. Richard was a life-long member of St. James Lutheran Church in Newton where he served on the Church Council and was chairman of the property committee. He also served as a scout leader and a youth leader. Richard loved his family, fishing and woodworking, and his two special pets, Jack and Ginger. He also loved music and played several instruments.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua DeMasters; son-in-law, Charles DeMasters; daughter-in-law, Lucinda Sigmon; brothers, Bobby Sigmon and Freddie Sigmon; sister, June Setzer.
Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kay Drum Sigmon, of the home; son, Alan Sigmon and fiancé, Donna Ward; daughters, Kim Bell and husband, David, of Claremont, Lisa Hicks and husband, Kelly, of Conover; brother-in-law, Hoyle Setzer Jr. of Claremont; sisters, Betty Deal and husband, Jim, of Raleigh and Gail Marlow and husband, Larry, of Alexis; grandchildren, Amanda Markham and husband, Bryant, of Troutman, Megan Hicks, Katey Hicks; and step-grandson, Clifford Bell.
A Service of Resurrection will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at St. James Lutheran Church with Rev. John Paul Lingle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
