

Rosa Maria Roll Shook, age 79, of Conover, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Carillon Assisted Living in Newton, NC. Born August 16, 1935 in Schawbish Hall, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Karl and Marie Roll. She grew up in Germany until she reached age 26, when she moved to Hickory, North Carolina with her first husband, Otto Mauch. The Mauch family immigrated to America in October, 1961 when Otto Mauch accepted a position with a Volkswagen dealership in Hickory as a factory-trained Volkswagen mechanic. Rosa loved her dogs and enjoyed gardening.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Richard Eugene Shook; her brothers Walter, Eugene, Karl, Ernst, and Adolf; her sisters Emma, Gertrude, Elfriede, Else, Frieda, and Lore; and her beloved dog, Jackie. All of her siblings remained in Germany with the exception of Gertrude Fox, who immigrated to the Hickory area prior to Rosa’s arrival.
Left to cherish Rosa’s memory are her sons Dieter Mauch of Durham, Greg Shook of Conover; daughters Angie Williams and husband, Rick Carson of Conover, Debi Sigmon of Conover; grandchildren Caroline and Christopher Mauch, Julie Anselmo, Jennifer Cooper, Grant and Whitney Shook; great-grandchildren Lorenzo Anselmo, Kymber and Karleigh Cooper; and her sister, Sophie.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Gary S. Haddock officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Her family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
