

Born October 11, 1945, in Iredell County, Steve was the son of the late Ray Alexander Stewart and Evelyn Elizabeth Hedrick Stewart.
Steve was a veteran of the US Air Force having served during the Vietnam War and retired from the Air Force as Captain after 16 years of service. Following his honorable discharge, he served for 12 years as a Civil Servant for the US Government. Steve was a member of the Military Officers Association and was also a member of the VFW. He later worked as a real estate agent in Arizona and Georgia before moving back to North Carolina. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Claremont, NC.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Dorothy Jones Stewart; daughters, Lisa Worley and husband Robert of Mount Gilead, NC, and Sandra Petroutsa of St. Augustine, FL; grandchildren, Tommy Worley and Georgia Petroutsa; sister, Jan Pharr and husband Kent of Catawba, NC; brother, Stan Stewart and wife Venida of Claremont, NC; nieces and nephews, Melody Jacobs, Candi Ciciarelli, Daniel Black, Chelsea Black, and Adam Pharr.
A service of remembrance will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at 1:00 PM at Bethel Lutheran Church in Claremont, NC. The Reverends Mike Ramey and Eric Hollar will officiate and a graveside service with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening at Bethel Lutheran Church from 6:00 – 7:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Bethel Lutheran Church, 5759 Bolick Road, Claremont, NC, 28610.
