

Albert Leon Chard, 82, of College Station, Texas (formerly of The Woodlands, Texas) was born on December 4, 1957 to Frank Elmer and Doris Ann Chard in Coffeyville, Kansas and passed away September 22, 2020 in College Station, Texas. He was raised in Chanute, Kansas where he graduated from high school. Following graduation, Leon joined the U. S. Navy and served from 1955-1958 until he was honorably discharged.
Leon married Judith Mary Greve of Chanute, Kansas on July 9, 1960 and they had two sons and one daughter: Jeff, Jennifer and Jerry. They moved to Freeport, Texas in 1968 and then to Conroe, Texas the following year where they raised their family.
Leon had a variety of jobs during his lifetime which included working for Santa Fe Railroad in Kansas, managing an Esso (Exxon) gas station in Conroe, owning/operating Show Time Video stores and Super Tan salons in Conroe and Huntsville, Texas, and as a salesperson for Wise Paper and Chemical Supply in Conroe. Some of his most interesting jobs were working for several different blimp companies which allowed him to travel all over the United States. In his retirement years, he continued to stay busy doing maintenance work for his townhouse community and a local car wash in The Woodlands.
Leon was a member of Conroe Noon Lions Club from early 1970 until early 1980. He served as Secretary, Vice-President and President. In his retirement years he loved setting up booths to sell his collection of Hot Wheels cars at area flea markets with his dear friend and companion of over 20 years, Jeanne Springs. He also loved NASCAR races, Kansas City Chiefs football and Kansas Jayhawks basketball.
Leon is preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Doris Chard and Doris’s second husband Orville Strean, his wife Judy Chard, son Jerry Chard, brother Bill Chard, sisters-in-law Rita Chard and Vicki Chard, and longtime friend and companion, Jeanne Springs.
He is survived by his son Jeff (wife Tammy) Chard of Rockport, Texas and grandchildren Kayla Chard of Santa Fe, Texas and Kameron Chard of Rockport, Texas; daughter Jennifer (husband Larry) Watson of Iola, Texas and grandchildren Mallory Watson of Austin, Texas and Bailey Watson of Houston Texas; brother Leroy Chard of Chanute, Kansas; sister Betty (husband Frank) Ryan of Mission, Kansas; sister-in-law Jeannie Chard of Chanute, Kansas; dear friends Tom and Susie Rhodes of The Woodlands, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Rhodes family for their care and compassion for Leon during his cancer treatments. They would also like to thank the staff at Bluebonnet Assisted Living Community and Encompass Home Health Hospice for taking care of him during the last seven months.
A private family ceremony will take place at a later date where his remains will be buried alongside his wife Judy and son Jerry in Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery.
