Albert Wayne Davis was called to his heavenly home on December 5, 2009. His departure will leave a void in the family that can never be filled, and he will be missed dearly every single day. On February 9, 1928 Albert was born to J. C. and Ruth Watson Davis in Riverside, Texas. After an early life on small farms in East Texas, he sought employment in the Houston area. There he met the love of his life, Rita Mae Goddard, and the two married on December 15, 1947. His death fell a few days short of their 62nd wedding anniversary. Albert and Rita raised their family primarily in La Porte, Texas but lived in Montgomery, Texas since 1994. Albert worked 43 years for Houston Shell and Concrete Company prior to retiring. Working initially as a crane operator, he advanced to superintendent of plant operations. He had a true gift for management. Though he administered with unquestioned authority, he showed concern for his workers and was always fair, receiving their love and respect in return. Despite dealing with a variety of health issues in his later life, he always remained positive and in good spirits and rarely complained. Possessed of a remarkable wit and dry sense of humor, he was loved immensely by all who knew him.One of his great joys was his 1957 Chevrolet Bellaire station wagon, which he purchased new and owned continuously for 52 years. He loved taking care of cattle on his ranch near Pennington, Texas, and he found boundless delight in his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Albert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers J. D. and Jack Davis, and sisters Lavera Ballantine and Annie Ruth Ferraro. He is survived by his wife, Rita Goddard Davis, daughter and son-in-law Rosalyn and Burt Bratcher of New Braunfels, Texas, son Gary Davis and special friend Sandi Massey of Montgomery, Texas, son and daughter-in-law Glenn and Nancy Davis of Lufkin, Texas, five grandchildren (Tim Bratcher of New Braunfels, Texas, Tara Key of Justin, Texas, Hal Davis of Garland, Texas, Joshua Davis of College Station, Texas, and Abby Davis of Nacogdoches, Texas), four great grandchildren (Noah Key, Jonah Key, Micah Key, and Drew Davis), two brothers (J. C. Davis, Jr. and Kenith Davis), and three sisters (Betty Sue Akins, Nell Waltz, and Elizabeth Hays). He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Metcalf Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas on December 9 at 10:00 AM. The family will receive friends and visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, December 8. Pallbearers will be Hal Davis, Josh Davis, J.C. Davis, J.D. Davis, John David Waltz, and Paul Ballantine. Honorary pallbearers are J. C. Davis, Jr., Kenith Davis, and Tim Bratcher, Donald Davis, Russell Davis, Dan Davis, Kenith Davis, Jr., Kevin Davis, and Karl Ferraro. Albert passed away surrounded by his loving family. He was devout in his Christian faith and is certainly enjoying being in the company of our Lord. We will treasure him in our hearts and love him forever.
