Bobby Ray Doughtie was born on May 3, 1932 and entered into eternity on October 15, 2022. Bob, as he preferred to be called, was born to Berry and Mary Gunter but after their deaths was adopted by Earl and Betty Doughtie. He was the youngest of 10 children.
Bob graduated from Willis High School then went on to serve in the U.S. Army. Upon his return he attended Sam Houston State and received a bachelor’s of science degree in business administration. Later he attended the Stanford Executive Program at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. He married Gloria Jean Wilburn of Conroe, the love of his life, and together they brought 4 beautiful children into this world. Their life together was full of great joys and heartbreaking sadness. God worked it together for good in him and Bob surrendered his life to Christ after the passing of their son, Bryan Keith, in 1964.
Bob was very successful in business as well. Bob had a remarkable work ethic and was a man of absolute integrity. He instilled these qualities in his children as well. Over the years, he volunteered with the church and served as a deacon. He had a tremendous mind for business administration and used his gift in many capacities with the church, family and friends. He gladly shared his wit and wisdom with all he countered and was a blessing to all. He enjoyed traveling, meeting new people, working hard and playing 42. He loved old hymns.
Bob is preceded in death by all four of his parents, Berry and Mary Gunter, Earl and Betty Doughtie; his beloved wife, Gloria Doughtie; and two of his sons, Bryan Keith Doughtie and Randal Lee Doughtie.
He is survived by his brother, David Gunter; two of his children, Nerrissa Gay Amador and Michael Ray Doughtie; his grandchildren, Michaelee Jean Doughtie, Gabriela Cristian Amador, John Amador and his wife Melanie Lynn Amador, and Kira Nichole Amador-Cyr; his great-grandchildren, Claire Violet Amador, Hattie Grace Amador, Parker Ann Amador, Emmilynn Joy Cyr and Ezra James Cyr. He is also survived by his second wife and caregiver, Alyce Thurston Doughtie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Following the memorial service there will be a reception and time of remembrance at Walden Yacht Club on Lake Conroe from 4:00 – 7:00.
