Bruce W Field, born on 09/21/1933, passed away on 01/30/2023 at the age of 89.
Bruce was raised in Medford Oregon with a sister Lois and parents Robert and Nettie Field. He was raised on a Tomato, Onion, and Watermelon Farm, and he also raised Cordaile and southdown sheep. Then he switched to Hereford cattle. He would take his sheep or cattle to the fair from 1946 – 1951 and would win many different ribbons, and would end up selling them to pay for his later college education. Bruce graduated from the University of Oregon in Eugene, OR in 1955 in Education with a minor in Art and History, and later returned for his master’s in education in 1964 and 1974.
Bruce had the pleasure of serving in the 38th infantry at Fort Lewis, WA in 1956. The Infantry was originally a Cavalry outfit. They served along the Mexican border and fought Comanches and Apaches. The unit was later moved to San Antonio to Fort Sam Houston. This was a period between the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
In 1960 Bruce met Jesus Christ and accepted Him as his personal Lord and Savior. After many years alone he claimed he was family with the Lord. He met Juanita Perry at the one room schoolhouse, in 1959 where he worked as principal and teacher. The other teachers laid bets on how soon they’d marry, from Love at first sight. They married Feb. 10th 1961 and had two children Daniel and Janet. Then he moved to Cottage Grove and taught 6th grade a few years, after he moved to Gresham Oregon where he taught at Lynch Terrace middle school for 18 years, from 1964 – 1982. He then finalized his career in teaching at a private school in Camarillo, CA teaching 5th grade. He enjoyed that time in California with Christian friends and a surfboard he learned to use in the ocean just off the Ventura beach.
After retiring from Education Bruce began his own company creating Indian replicas of tomahawks, peace pipes, and many other items. He used his teaching, History, and art background to create some fantastic pieces that he sold.
Bruce Field is survived by his wife Juanita Field, his two children Daniel Field and Janet Placek, his 6 grandkids, and 8 great grandchildren.
