

Charles Raymond " Chuck" Nelson, passed away on October 30, 2012. Chuck was an only child, born May 18, 1937 in McKinney, Texas, to Raymond S. "Pops" Nelson and Melva S. "Mimi" Nelson. His parents soon moved to Ft. Worth where he attended grade school, Arlington Heights High School and Texas Christian University from which he graduated in 1961. After 5 short years with Texaco Corporation, he went to work for Chrysler Motors where his career encompassed 40 years. During that time he traveled a great deal and moved his family from Amarillo to Garland and finally to Conroe where he settled until his retirement in 2004. After retiring he bought 18 acres in New Waverly and started life in the country. He lead a dual life as he also worked for the NHRA, National hot Rod Association, from 1958 until his death. He was the Division IV Technical Director for over 54 years and was instrumental in forming the sport of NHRA Drag Racing as it is today.
He is preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Melva Nelson. He is survived by his wife Sandy Lee Nelson, daughter Carla Lee, son Chris Nelson & his wife Sherry, daughter Cherie Nelson & husband Jeff Gregg, grand children Sterling Russell III (Trey), Tiffany Lee, Megan Lee, Clayton Nelson & Cory Nelson, great-grand children Kamron & Kaylee Lee as well as many dear friends. The family would like to thank the Abundant Life UPC Church in Willis, Family Life UPC Church in Corsicana, The Encourager Church in Houston, Grace Covenant Baptist Church in Willis, thousands of unnamed prayer warriors across this country and most of all Chuck and Sandy's dearest and closest friends Dr. Stephen Means and family for their love & unwavering support.
