Chris Smith was a family man, big brother, music fanatic, and gearhead. His passion for cars and music was only surpassed by his love for his family. Chris and Donna dreamed of having three children. This required five surgeries and the grace of God to achieve. His younger sisters would say that they were the Three Musketeers because they were truly “all for one and one for all.” Chris dedicated his life to supporting, mentoring, listening, and educating anyone who needed assistance. The only exception was his high school professor, whom he mocked for criticizing his choice of books by translating one paragraph of Edward Bellamy’s – Looking Backward.
Chris loved the keyboard, especially the Hammond B3. In his younger years he frequently attended concerts for artists like The Doors, Cream, Steve Winwood, and his all-time favorite, Brian Auger. He always had the most state-of-the-art stereo equipment and would host parties solely focused around the music. He was not fond of vocals—his requirements were keyboard, percussion, and “turn it up!” His passion for music would pass down to his children and grandchildren.
With childhood memories of cars like the ’58 Roadmaster, ’64 Chevy Impala with neutral low drops, and “It’s okay, it’s got radials,” he had a new story every time you saw him. He owned more cars than years he’d been alive—from his first car, the ’65 Pontiac GTO, to his last prized possession, the ’66 Pontiac GTO that had to have factory A/C. He had rules of cars to live by, like: if you own a Porsche, you must have three things—
1. Keep change in your pocket to call the tow truck.
2. Do not take it anywhere you need to be at a specific time.
3. You must have a GM product in the garage for when the Porsche breaks down.
His belief was that God made the second half of the speedometer for a reason, and his favorite speed was “ludicrous speed,” with his “hair” blowing in the wind.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret Jean Smith. Chris Smith is survived by his wife, Donna Smith, of nearly 49 years; sisters Claudia Carlson and Cindy Farnsworth; children Christopher Smith II, Jennifer Barker, and Michael Smith; grandchildren Desirae Morgan, Ben Barker, Belladonna Smith, PJ Barker, Savanna Barker, and Christopher Smith III; and, joined by marriage, Meriah Smith, Patrick Barker, and Nicole Sepulveda Smith.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Christ Church, located at 10087 League Line Rd, Conroe, TX 77304. The service is scheduled for January 10, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
