He was born in Gainesville, GA on August 12th, 1958, to Bill and Peggy Eustes. After moving across the country throughout his childhood thanks to the Florida Methodist Church and then the US Air Force, he attended Louisiana Tech University with his brother Bill. He graduated with a BS in Geology in 1980. After this, he worked at several different oil and gas companies starting in Houston but spent most of his career as the Senior Geophysicist with Sklar Exploration. While in Houston, he took a chance on a nurse and met Kim Eustes. They were married on June 19, 1982 and enjoyed 42 years together. Prior to working with Sklar, he and Kim moved to Shreveport, LA and started a family. They had one daughter, Bethany Susan Eustes and son, Robert Wesley Eustes, named after his beloved little brother Bobby.
Don was a brother, friend, confidant, comic relief, and man truly on fire for God. Anyone who knew him would find themselves either rolling on the floor with laughter or in a deep conversation about their faith within minutes. He was an avid reader, songwriter, singer, guitarist, theologian, scientist, crazy about dogs, die-hard Cowboys fan, and motorcycle nut to name a few. However, his passion was his family. His wife, children, and especially his grandchildren were the anchor of his life. He was a father who taught his children to be strong, kind, and positive. When his three grandchildren came along, his heart and arms opened even wider to be the greatest Papa ever. He attended ballgames and concerts, prayed through surgeries, and joined the kids to watch a favorite movie. But Don’s love didn’t begin to stop there. He was a trusted son and brother. He was a favorite uncle who could be relied upon for a joke and a hug. He had friends he considered family all over the world. He touched many lives through countless ministries including Emmaus and the Christian Motorcyclists Association. As he faced his final days, he celebrated that he would soon meet Jesus face to face.
Don was preceded in death by his mother Margaret Ann “Peggy” Eustes, brother Robert “Bobby” Eustes, and best friend Cory Ezelle.
He is survived by his wife Kim, father Bill Eustes, brother Bill and wife Susan Eustes, brother Steve and wife Mindy Eustes, and sister Leanne and husband Bruce Perry; daughter Bethany and husband Derrick Tilbury, and son Wes and wife Megan Eustes. His precious grandchildren are Lawson Eustes, Emery Eustes, and Sophia Tilbury.
A visitation for Don will be held Friday, August 30th from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00PM with a reception to follow at Metcalf Funeral Directors, 1801 E White Oak Terrace, Conroe, Texas. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA), an organization near and dear to his heart.
