died suddenly in his home on May 15, 2025.
Ed was born in Warren, Pennsylvania on December 7, 1947, to his parents, John Mihalik and Mary Glotz Mihalik, who proceeded him in death.
He grew up in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, and attended Benedictine High School and John Carroll University. Following his graduation, he married the love of his life, Diane Laidman, on June 14, 1969. He went on to served his country in the Army as a First Lieutenant. He was stationed at Fort Eustis, Virginia, and went on to serve a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran!
Ed and his wife were blessed with 3 beautiful daughters, Tracey Mathews (Stephen), Tina Paez (Eddie), and Lisa Franks (Chris). Their family grew with nine Grandchildren, Kyle O’Bryan (Payton), Austin Mathews (Reagan), Kourtney O’Bryan, Faith Sanchez (Daniel), Meghan Franks, Johnny Paez, Sam Mathews (Sarah), Emily Mathews, and Monica Franks. He lovingly called all his Granddaughters “Lulu”! His family grew even more with five Great-Grandchildren, Emarie O’Bryan, Lydia O’Bryan, Preston O’Bryan, Kingston O’Bryan, and Meredith O’Bryan.
Ed’s extended family were Diane’s parents, Sanford and Bertha Laidman, who proceeded him in death, and her sisters and brothers, Judith Lalak (John), Beverly Augusta (Frank), Gary Laidman (Beth Ann), Ken Laidman (Cindy), and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Least of all his childhood friend of over 70 years, Joe Medricka, who was more like a brother than a friend.
No doubt he would say the “highlight” of his life, other than being married to Diane for 56 years, his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was working for USON LP, in Houston, Texas, which precipitated the family’s move to Houston in 1982. Ed always said the owner, Bill Rapson, was his mentor, and he and Diane made many life-long friendships among his co-workers and Uson Representatives.
