George Brett Marsh

Brett was the only son to parents Ernest George Marsh, Jr. and Pansy Lee Porter Marsh. He graduated from Deer Park High School in 1969 and sought higher education at Temple Junior College (Associates Degree, 1971) and Texas A&M University. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Ecology. In 1978, he moved to Temple, Texas where he served in many positions. Brett retired from the Department of State Health Services where he trained paramedics across the state. Following his retirement from the state, he began a second career with the Bell County Public Health System as an administrator in the safety division. Brett enjoyed law enforcement and volunteered as a police officer with The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Brett enjoyed fishing and hunting, Explorer Scouts while in high school and activities that resulted in being outdoors. He was involved with the National Cave Rescue Commission as an instructor. He was also a part of the cooking team “Side of the Road Gang” with some of his friends. Brett had a big heart and supported programs assisting children. He enjoyed contributing to Toys for Tots through the Temple Police Department. He and his son, Ben, distributed books to children on Halloween. Brett was also supportive of the Un-Included Club of Temple, an enrichment and mentoring organization that offers programs to underserved youth in Bell County.

He was preceded in death by his son, Benjamin Garrett Marsh, parents Ernest and Pansy Marsh, sister Suzann Nieto, and niece Shelley Dahlberg. He is survived by his sister Jana Stephens and husband Sam Stephens, sister Melissa Hunt and husband Jim Hunt, the mother of his child, Judy Marsh, nieces and nephews Sean Nieto, Stephanie Nieto, Michael Nieto, Greg Stephens, Jason Stephens, Jonathan Hunt, and Jenna Bubela.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Un-Included Club of Temple at 1000 South Knob Street in Temple, Texas.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the farm in Wheelock, Texas this fall.
