Georgia Mae Stampes (née Cotton), who’s friends and family called her “Cookie,” made it to heaven to be with the Lord on March 10, 2020. She was 66 years old, but never felt older than her 20’s. Cookie was born to the late Georgia Mae Thornton and James “Jimmy” Cotton in Chicago, Illinois on October 6, 1953. She was raised in the church with a lifelong commitment to God. Cookie loved to celebrate life’s achievements and milestones both hers' and yours. She always called you on birthday, gave you updates on the latest news in case you missed it, and she loved to give gifts. Cookie would have the perfect Christmas present for you by July—if not sooner, and she would check on your usage of it throughout the year. She loved to travel with her family and her favourite destination of over 20 times was Disney World, but a short trip to the outlet mall to add to her handbag or travel tote collection would bring her the same amount of joy. Cookie’s heart was always in the right place and as any great mother she let you know how proud she was, that she believed in your ability to do anything and go anywhere, and she would be there to help. As a woman of God and faith, her spirit will always be with us guiding her family to reach our full potential. Cookie’s favourite scripture from the Bible was Psalms 23, a Psalm of David:
Psalm 23 King James Version (KJV)
23 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Cookie was strong spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Her faith in Jesus supported her throughout life and provided peace during trying times and kept her outlook positive. Georgia was proceeded in death by her parents and husband Robert Stampes (2006). She is survived by her children Rahsaan, Robert (wife Nadia), Angela, Crystal; her grandsons Marcus, Nixon, and Carter; her brothers Ronald Walsh (wife Cynthia) and Lamont Boswell; her “niece” Zonita Bond; as well as additional nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Cookie is already missed by those who knew and loved her. We are thankful for the time she was with us and we celebrate the fact she is seated next to the Lord in the Kingdom of Heaven!
