Glenn Lewis King was born on February 18, 1942, in Longview, TX. Preceded in death by his parents, James Delbert King, and William “Pop” and Dorothy “GiGi” Burgin. Glenn went to his forever home on March 20, 2024.
Glenn was called “Kingman” by his friends and business associates, “Coach” by his very dear friend Glenn Wilson and “Papa” by all his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Growing up, Glenn was a Boy Scout and at the age of 12, he became one of the youngest Eagle Scouts of his time. That drive and ambition followed him his entire life and was reflected in the way he lived his life.
In 1968, Glenn was honored with the accomplished achievement of becoming a Mason.
Glenn enjoyed golfing and played in many celebrity golf tournaments at Ceasar’s Palace in Las Vegas with his buddies Andy, Ken, and Doug. He won a car when he got a hole in one at a charity golf tournament that he played in with Glenn Wilson. In his lifetime, he actually shot 3 holes in one!
Glenn loved fast cars and fast boats. He loved cruising the family around Lake Conroe or Lake Travis in his Scarab, appropriately named “Hammer Time.” He spent many days pulling his kids, grandkids, and their friends behind the boat on the Banana tube, skiing, and inner tubing.
His love for sports was shown as he coached his boy’s football, baseball, and soccer teams while they were growing up. Throughout his youngest son, Jason’s baseball career, the only game he missed was when he wound up in the hospital. This was an out-of-town tournament in Arizona, and he missed seeing Jason’s first collegiate home run.
When his grandsons were old enough to start playing baseball “Papa” was right there in the stands cheering them on and followed them as far away as Cooperstown. No matter what sport they played, “Papa” was there.
As a young man, Glenn worked for his Uncle James homebuilding company in Longview, TX which peaked Glenn’s interest to join the home building industry. He worked for National Homes Corporation traveling around selling prefab homes, and from there he worked in the title insurance business. After leaving the title insurance business, he started his home building company, Kingman Homes, in Spring, TX. He later moved the business to Montgomery, TX. It was here that he would build many prestigious homes in the surrounding area, including Bentwater and Carlton Woods. His homes were a sight to behold and perfection at its best. Glenn was a stellar builder, and he did everything old school, from figuring the job manually to not using computer software, right up to the time he built his last house. Glenn took great pride in knowing that what he built would look as good 30 years down the road as it did when he completed the job.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Doreen King of Montgomery, TX. Son and daughter-in-law, Brannon and Melissa King of Montgomery, TX. Daughter and son-in-law, Philip and Misty King Hays of Frisco, TX. Daughter and son-in-law, Tiffany and David Choate of New Waverly, TX.
