Hunter had a deep-rooted faith in Jesus, read his Bible daily, and listened to his church podcast driving to and from work. Hunter’s dedication to his recovery program and his friends in NA were the most important part of his life.
Those who knew Hunter were impacted by his ability to make every daily event fun. His light hearted approach to life lifted everyone’s spirit. His sense of humor was infectious and his smile and laugh could swallow you up. His closest family and friends will miss his daily texts and calls to discuss his love for God and his family, his recovery journey, his latest new recipe, the Astros, Texans, Rockets, and the most current news.
As a child, Hunter loved to play table tennis. He won a bronze medal in the table tennis championship at the AAU Junior Olympics in 1997. He was also an excellent golfer winning the North Regional High School championship in Phoenix, AZ in 2004.
Hunter graduated from Central Oregon Community College High School in 2005. He loved to lift weights and work out. He was a talented artist using pencil and charcoal to draw his Mammaw and his daughter Lilianah’s portraits along with many other renderings of people and places.
Hunter worked for various oil field related companies over his lifetime. He loved the oil patch and the many friends he made while on a rig or in the field. He said he felt closest to God at the top of a rig.
Hunter is survived by his daughter Lilianah Mayes. He is also survived by his parents Mike and Nancy Mayes and his grandmother Tommie Mayes who loved him dearly. He was preceded by his sister Krista Mayes.
