Jackie is my cousin. He and Verna Mae were a little older than we were, so they were more like an Aunt and Uncle..I loved going to spend the weekend at there house and hanging out in Jackie's shop. He always amazed me when it came to working on cars. Someone would pull up to the shop with a problem and he would tell them what was wrong with it, by just hearing it. He was a good man and will be missed by so many. RIP, Uncle Jackie! I'll see you later!!

I can remember Mr. Jackie forever he lived across the street from my grandmother and my grandfather in Cloverleaf and I spent a lot of time there at my grandparents and Jackie was a big part of my life growing up I can remember being outside playing and tell  my  nanny I’m going to cross street talk to Mr. Jackie his garage door was open  and go say hi to his wife and they would always give me sweets to eat.  Mrs Verna  was  inside and she would  be in there in the kitchen or something smiling.  Id come walking up Mr. Jackie it’s me , he be like hey girl and he be real loud and he’s always make me laugh because he was so loud like me and it didn’t matter where I was he would always ask me how’s ur mom and dad. He had the best laugh ever.  I’m so glad that they were my family’s neighbors growing  thank you for being my friend and may  you Rest In Peace

My dearest neighbors I am so sorry that you lost Jackie and my memories of Jackie is his laugh and when I would hear him laugh it would make me laugh . I heard that laugh many years Because  you see i lived right across the street from them on Bonham street in Cloverleaf and they always  welcome me in their home and they were surely welcome in ours.to me they are part of my family .so me and Debbie grew up together played kick ball in the street and Jackie telling us to be safe out there we had wonderful times there surrounded by great people and I truly love them all  , I’m so sorry Debbie and Mrs. Verna .my heart is heavy right now for y’all.   I have too many memories to even list but that one memory is one Mr. Jackie had was the laugh..  Rest In Peace .love Teresa and Howard and family ❣️

Ok ,I've got to tell this story it involves Jackie, Mike ,myself and Verna and mine and verna's momma ! It was on my mom's birthday,Mike and I had to stay home with a baby sitter,"Billie Sue Perran ". Mike and myself were bored happened a lot we were always mischievous ! So we decided to fry some big water roaches on the stove and chase the baby sitter with them. Well she "ratted" us out  ! Jackie was furious ! We got the belt and was sent to bed (with no birthday cake ) ! Mike got up and was gonna sneak us some cake  ,he got caught ! We both got another "whooping" I got blamed for it ,I was older than Mike  about 5 years ! 
Seemed like yesterday !

We were in the third grade when I met Mike we had met before but never hung around. It's hard to remember one without mentioning both. Why they had the same look flat top hair cuts and hollywood smiles. Mike walked in the new kid at cloverleaf looks at me an winks like watch this. 
On sum Sunday mornings at the Woodforest Babteist Church we would be with  our family's. There was a old shop on Saturdays the race car would be in the driveway we washed everything with paint on it. Alot of the time we got to go. Jackie placed alot, that ment chicken fried steak. If he won we ate T bones and cleaned the bones. We set in the stands 4th turn high up in the bleachers we wanted to see everything. We were marched and shook AJ Fouyt hand some times..
Before ten years we could do tune ups within a year we could rebuild a motor. The shop floor stayed clean one of the rules and the tools had a place..our behavior was well behaved most of the time especially in the shop..Verna would make us treats and cold  drinks.. we learned how to drive up an down the drive way. After the wreak Jackie built the new shop. By his self one brick at a time. Again showing us how to fight back. Assume a goal and anachive it thru attrition.  The new house was built I can remember helping in the addic at first I was slow then caught on we got did most of it quickly. Another time I got that look of pride an a pat on the back. That was one on one time sweat equity. That laugh and his smile were awesome an cool to earn. A real hero to me. The brothers were always good to me. An. Firm when If needed it..an never held a grudge. A very smart loving man. With a laugh and a smile. Yes we were very lucky

I can remember coming out there for family reunions. You could always count 
on endless hugs, lots of laughs, goofing off and awesome food. Jackie was always laughing and always had a smile for you.  He had an amazing personality. He always had something to tell that would definitely make you laugh. 
Jackie was an amazing man that I was blessed to call family.

My life changed when I went to work with Jackie at Bob Robertson Chevrolet in Houston in 1976 ,He  influenced me into making  a career in  being an Auto technician ! Or a ( mechanic);for you  East Texans !  He was a mentor on life itself for me ! There was a few times that we didn't see eye to eye ,but he was right 99% of the time ! I loved watching him  race  at Meyer Speedway in Houston ,I loved listening to his stories ! 
I showed him my racecar one day and he asked  how much I had in it  and I told him a drug habit woulda been cheaper ! He just shook his head ! I was proud to run the #4 on my car ! It was also my and my uncle's number when we were firemen ! Now my nephew is carrying on that racing family tradition ! R.I.P. Jackie !
