Jean Marjorie (Froelich) Evans, formerly of Panorama Village, Texas, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at age 96. She was 5 days short of her 97th birthday.
Jean was born October 10, 1924, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Frederick Arthur Froelich and Louella Birdie (Young) Froelich. She graduated from Penn High School in 1942. While attending school there, she was an avid member of the Kiltie Club, she was selected for the lead part in the senior school play and chosen by her peers to reign as Penn High School’s Prom Queen.
Jean continued her education at Robert Morris University. She graduated in 1943 with an Associate degree in Secretarial Sciences and was offered a job working as an executive secretary at a large insurance firm in Pittsburgh. America had entered WWII the same year, and like many young women, Jean participated in volunteer group activities to support the war effort at home.
In the spring of 1949, Jean met her husband, Dale Edwin Evans, a mechanical engineer employed at Westinghouse Elevator Corporation while in training at its home offices in Pittsburgh. On April 8, 1950, one year after they first met, Dale and Jean married at the United Methodist Church in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. Although Jean had lived in Pittsburgh since birth, after Dale was assigned a new position at the Westinghouse offices in New York City, she happily accompanied him on their first of many bold adventures together during Dale’s 37-year career with Westinghouse Elevator.
After relocation to New York City, she responded to an advertisement for a secretarial position at the Seagram Company, Ltd. After accepting the position, Jean worked for the President and Vice President of Seagram as an Executive Secretary until the birth of her first child Robert Dale. At this point, Jean decided to be a full-time stay-at-home mom to raise her son. Jean gave birth to her second child Judith Ann three and a half years later. Soon afterward the family moved to Van Cortlandtville, NY, and then Dallas, Texas in 1965. Starting in 1969 Jean and Dale continued to accept promotions resulting in additional moves to Edison, NJ, Bay Village, Ohio, and Branchburg, NJ. They moved to Panorama Village, Texas in 1986 after Dale retired.
Jean was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Jean devoted her days and nights to support her husband while he built a successful career and giving her children a solid foundation of love, character, strength, and values in which their future lives would be built.
Jean was a member of the First Methodist Church of Conroe. She was a devout Christian and was known to read her bible daily. She was also a member of the Panorama Village Ladies Association, the Panorama Village Garden Club, the Panorama “9 Holers” (golf group), and both women’s and couple’s bridge groups. Some of her fondest memories were family reunions at Sunset Beach and cruises around the world.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband Dale Edwin Evans, parents, Frederick Arthur and Louella Birdie Froelich; brother, Howard Frederick Froelich and wife Margaret; and brother William Norvel Froelich.
She is survived by her son, Robert Dale Evans, and wife, Joan; daughter, Judith Ann Evans; grandchildren, Amy Michelle Evans and Amanda Marie Keesee; great-grandchildren, Michael James Gibson, David Andrew Gibson, and Briana Skye Gibson; nieces Peggy Ann (Froelich) Pattillo and Kim (Froelich) Shemansky; and nephew David Froelich.
A Funeral Service officiated by Reverend Janet Stilwell will be held Saturday, October 16, 2021, at 10:00 AM at First Methodist Church Conroe followed by burial in Garden Park Cemetery at 11:30 AM.
