Jean Galloway Leland

Jean Galloway Leland passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at home on September 28th, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Blanche Galloway, her husband, Rodney C. Leland and her son, Rodney C Leland, Jr. Jean was born in Madisonville, KY on October 6, 1923. She used to say she had a joyful childhood and always knew she was loved. She also had her beloved horse Rebel when she was young; she rode him everywhere! Jean attended Ward Belmont College in Nashville and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1945. She met Rod when he was stationed at Fort Campbell, KY before his deployment overseas. Following the war, it took him three tries to convince her to marry him. After they married, what a life they had! His job as a geologist/geophysicist took the family all over the world, including: Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina, Tierra del Fuego, Nigeria, Canada, The Netherlands, Texas (several times!) and Louisiana. Wherever the family landed, Jean had a knack for making it feel like home. Jean and Rod retired to the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire before their final move to Conroe. Jean was a 'wordsmith', an art and history buff, and above all, a true Southern lady. Throughout the family's travels she used to say her epitaph should read, “Wait a minute, I have to make one more sandwich!”. Jean is survived by her daughter Anne Arndt, of Conroe, and her grandchildren, Heather Arndt of Austin; Matthew Arndt and his wife Tina of Montgomery; Rodney Leland, III of Lethbridge, Alberta; Robert Leland of Calgary, Alberta; and Elizabeth Leland of Lethbridge, Alberta. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Margaret Leland of Calgary, Alberta and her great-grandson, Lucas Parker Arndt of Montgomery. Friends and family are invited to the visitation at Cashner Funeral Home on Thursday, October 2nd , from 5-7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 3rd at 12:30pm in the Cashner Colonial Chapel with Rev. Scott Moore presiding. Condolences may be left at www.cashnerconroe.com.
