Jeannie was born March 6, 1943 in Santa Monica, California, and was the daughter of Robert Lemuel Naumann and Wilma Kathryn Rogers Naumann. Though she was born and raised in California, she and her brother, James Lee Naumann, would visit their mother’s childhood home in Winterset, Iowa during the summer. Iowa and the many fun family reunions held there were some of her most precious memories.
Jeannie graduated from Knapp College of Nursing in September 1963 and began her lifelong career as a nurse at Santa Monica Hospital. Eventually, she returned to school to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Houston Clear Lake. Throughout her career, she worked across California and Texas in various medical settings, including hospitals, doctor offices, and chemical plants. Post-retirement, she used her nursing skills on several mission trips.
Shortly after graduating from Knapp College, Jeannie married Frank Lewis Harrigan. They share three children: Shawn Michael Harrigan (spouse, Sabrina Harrigan), Kelli Jean Harrigan (deceased), and Kerri Lynn Harrigan (spouse, Andrew Creed Campbell). Jeannie loved to dote on her four grandchildren, who were her pride and joy: Kaylee Lynn Campbell, Spencer Lewis Harrigan, Samuel Joseph Harrigan, and Andrew Seth Campbell.
On August 31, 1997, she married Harold Gene Necessary and remained married to him until he passed on May 16, 2020. From this marriage she gained stepchildren Kimberly Ruth Howell (spouse, Wayne Howell) and Jeffrey Mark Necessary, as well as step-grandchildren Caleb Wayne Howell, Weston Emmett Howell, Connor Moyer Necessary, and Lane Marcel Necessary.
Jeannie was a kind and humorous soul to all who knew her, and a loving and devoted mother and grandmother to her family (except when it came to sharing her See’s Candy . . . those were not to be shared even amongst the most beloved of family, much to the family’s chagrin and humor). One of her greatest passions was quilting. She enjoyed spending time with her quilting friends, making quilts for her family and friends, and going to quilting fairs to buy beautiful fabrics.
Other than quilting, she enjoyed birdwatching, gardening, holiday Hallmark movies, traveling, and doting on the family’s Labrador Retrievers. She was also a loyal member of West Conroe Baptist Church, where she loved to sing with the choir and participate in the annual “Bethlehem City” drive-through Christmas experience. In short, Jeannie lived a long, good life in which she valued her faith and her family.
