JoAnne Apostolo Edgmon of Conroe Texas, born in Houston, Texas on January 27, 1938, devoted wife and mother, died October 17, 2024. JoAnne was preceded in death by Steven Russell Edgmon, her husband of more than 56 years, by her mother, Mary Lee (Nichols) Signorelli, and her father, Leon Bernie Apostolo, and by her brothers, Bernie Apostolo, Donald Apostolo and Johnny Signorelli. She is survived by son John Mark Edgmon and wife Theodora of San Antonio, and son Peter Russell Edgmon and wife Melissa of Sugar Land, and by her grandchildren Benjamin Edgmon, Luke Edgmon, Daniel Edgmon, Katherine Edgmon and Emma Edgmon, and by numerous other Apostolo, Signorelli and Edgmon nieces, nephews and their children.
JoAnne graduated from Conroe High School in 1956, then attended Abilene Christian University for two years for an associates degree. She then worked in Houston, including time at Tenneco, until she married Steven in 1964. JoAnne later worked many years as a legal secretary for Darden Fowler & Crieghton in Conroe – sons Mark and Peter would often sneak in the back door of the law offices on West Phillips St. after school at Sam Houston Elementary to grab a cold Coke and wait for JoAnne to finish up and take them home.
JoAnne was devoted and tireless with her love and care for immediate and extended family members, for her church family, and for friends within her community and beyond. JoAnne demonstrated for so many years so much of what it means to be a Christian through daily application of selfless devotion to faith and giving of herself to others. Truly, it was clear to see in JoAnne’s life the two greatest commandments that Jesus taught us…to honor God with all your heart and soul, and to love your neighbor as yourself.
She faithfully attended the Frazier St. and Conroe Churches of Christ for many years, filling the building with her beautiful soprano voice. One did not need to look in the pews behind them to know if JoAnne was in attendance. She loved to sing with all her soul.
She also loved to make things beautiful outside her home. She was an avid gardener and bird lover for many years and would brighten things up around the house for every season, and for everyone to see. So many people, whether the neighbors, mail carriers, delivery drivers, bus drivers, or just perfect strangers would often stop to look at what JoAnne had planted or added come the new seasons. She took great pride in creating new ways to make her landscape a paradise of natural beauty.
