Leon Leslie King

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Eva King; brother, Leonard King; half-sister, Eunice Williams; half-brother, Ralph King; and his step-granddaughter, Kayla Ayanna Florence.

Leon is survived by his loving bride of 64 years, Patricia (Pat) King; sons, Kenny King and Michael King; treasured grandchildren, Ryan King and Kaitlin King; and nephew, David King.

Leon had a paper route delivering newspapers at age of 10. He made a profession of faith at age of 11 and was baptized in an irrigation canal. His first car was a 1947 Crosley he bought on credit when he was 14. At the age of 15 he worked with his father at a cotton gin. He began his career in the automobile industry by working at Standard Chevrolet in Edinburg, TX as a parts chaser while in his junior year of high school. When he was 20 years old and at an A&W Root Beer Stand, he met and fell in love at first sight with Pat who modeled a blue sack dress for him. After going broke in his brick trucking business, he went back to work as a mechanic at McRoberts Chevrolet in Houston, TX and later advanced to service management creating service departments and body shops at Tom Peacock Chevrolet and Tom Peacock Cadillac working his way to general manager at Mac Haik Ford and then Lawrence Marshall Ford.

Leon was ordained as a deacon at Braeburn Baptist Church where he was a founding member. In 1970 he moved to West Houston and joined Tallowood Baptist Church. When Tallowood Baptist planted a mission, (now Kingsland Baptist Church), Leon was asked to come and help start it. He served as a deacon and Chairman of the Building Committee. He was also a Director for the Serendipity Class.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the Worship Center at Kingsland Baptist Church with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mission Fund at Kingsland Baptist Church or the Parkinson Foundation. The service will be live streamed at https://kingsland.org/memorialservice
