On July 27, 2022, after several months of dealing with a surprise brain tumor that she fought so hard to overcome, she passed away in the arms of her most beloved Allen Dillard. She gained her wings and ran into the arms of the Lord and her big brother Robert.
Lucy was the second child, born on September 8, 1961 to the parents of Robert Ruiz Hinojosa and Mary Hinojosa in Houston, Texas. Lucy was always the peacemaker out of her siblings, and would never get into trouble. To her dad she was his little piece of Gold. She was described as the little Princess standing by in her spotless dress, as her siblings tumbled around in the mud. As a child her summers were her favorite, Lucy would lay in the fields with her sisters looking for four leaf clovers while their big brother was working on building them dollhouse pools. They would lay underneath the clouds trying to make out the shapes that would fly by.
As a teen she loved to hang out at concerts with her big brother, and rock her long wavy black hair and her flawless eye makeup that she never left home without. She was known for her flip flops that she would wear no matter the season, she was even bribed by her father she could have any shoe in the world just to get out of her flip flops, and she wouldn’t budge. She was a free spirit who loved to go barefoot, and hated shoes, unless they were of course her flip flops.
Lucy met the love of her life, Allen in 1973 when she was in 5th grade. Their first date was October of 1978, when that sparked the beginning of their lifelong romance and the two were un-separable. They spent summers at the beach with their friends and family barbecuing and tanning in the sun. Being around family was the most important to Lucy.
Lucy graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1979, and she married the love of her life on June 18, 1983. Lucy started her first job at United Bank as a bank teller, kickstarting an over 40 year career in banking that ended with her last position that she was so proud of, the Vice President, Manager of Prosperity Bank.
Lucy and Allen were the proud parents of their first born daughter Ashley and her baby, Allen Dwayne Dillard, Jr. Lucy spent the remainder of her life testing her luck at bingo, casinos, and buying lotto tickets every morning before work. She loved her shoes, she’d always have on wedges, even in Vegas, she told her daughter you can’t walk the strip in flats! Lucy would never leave the house without lipstick, or makeup on. She was always dressed to the nines. She loved getting her nails done, and being glamorous. She was a hard worker who never wanted to miss a day's work. She was a friend, and a mother to so many others in her life. She was one you could sit and talk to for hours, to lean on and to know her you felt pure love. She never had a bad thing to say of anyone, and was the peacemaker among us all. Her smile could light up the room. Her love of Jesus was unshakable, she loved the Lord with her entire soul.
She is preceded in death by her big brother Robert Ruiz Hinojosa, wife Frances Hinojosa, and sister in law Roxanne Druce. She leaves behind her loving husband of 39 years and together for 45, Allen Dillard.
