

Martha Alice Tannery Jones passed away suddenly on December 31, 2017 at the age of 86. A fifth generation Texan, she was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on October 13, 1931. She attended Stephen F. Austin State University and received a B.S. degree in education from Southern Methodist University.
Martha was an elementary teacher for 31 years; 28 of those with Conroe ISD. In 1990 she was selected Elementary Teacher of the year. Upon retiring, she pursued her passion for writing full time. Martha was a published children’s author and in her later years she loved to travel,
She was a beloved wife of 50 years to George Dennis Jones and mother to four daughters.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Ruby Tannery of Nacogdoches; husband George D. Jones of Conroe, brother Clifton Tannery Jr. of Nacogdoches and her daughter Melissa Jones Harbolt of Conroe.
She is survived by her three daughters: Sharon Jones Berry and husband Joey of Pasadena, TX; daughter Debbie Jones Blane and husband Steve of Newnan, GA and daughter Sharla Jones Davis of Hackettstown, NJ.
“Neenee” had twelve grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A celebration of Martha’s life will be on Saturday, February 24, 2018 beginning at 2:00pm at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to your favorite charity.
