Celebration of Life services for Ola Nichols Payne, age 100, of Sanger, Texas will be held on Thursday, July 07, 2022 at 10am at Metcalf Funeral Home, 1801 E, White Oak Terrace, Conroe, Texas 77304. Dr. Charles (Rusty) Walton will be officiating. Visitation will precede the service at 9:00 am.

Interment will immediately follow in Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery, 1700 Porter Road, Conroe, Texas under the direction of Metcalf Funeral Directors.
Ola was born on August 7, 1921, in McCaulley, Texas and passed away, Friday, July 01, 2022 in Sanger, Texas. As a longtime resident of Conroe, she attended Conroe schools and upon graduation from high school in 1939, she was employed by the Conroe Lufkin Telephone Co. She then was employed by Paul P. Hicks, DDS as a general dentistry assistant for over 30 years until retiring in 1981.
Her family and friends best knew her as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and a loyal friend. Grounded in her faith, she was a longtime member of Conroe First Baptist Church where she was an Outreach Leader for the adult Sunday School departments, member of the Deborah Class, prayer warrior in the Prayer Card Ministry, historian of the Live Wire Choir and charter member of the Happy Strings Ukulele Band. Ola also enjoyed working with her hands, especially working in her yard or crocheting her cherished afghans for family and friends. Many of her projects helped the homeless and children ministries.
Ola was preceded in death by her loving husband of 34 years, George T. (Buck) Payne, her parents Joseph and Princie Nichols and brother, Alvin Nichols and sister, Beulah Vick. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Jeanette Payne Gandy and husband, Kent Gandy, of Oak Point, Texas and Priscilla Ann Payne Owens and husband, Kyle Owens of Houston, Texas; by one grandson, William Brian Gandy and wife, Elizabeth Ann Gandy and by great-grandson, Blake Carter Gandy of Loveland, Colorado; by great-grandson, Brayden Owens of Houston, Texas, by five nieces and nephews and their spouses and many precious friends.
