

Paul W. Wommack, age 90, of The Woodlands passed away at 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2012. He was born in Texarkana, TX, on December 12, 1921, to Benjamin and Jessie Wommack, and was the youngest of five children. He served in the Army during WWII in the North African and European Theaters of Operation at Morocco, Algiers, Italy and France, and received the Legion of Merit Award for Meritorious Service in the invasion of Africa at Casablanca in October, 1942. Upon returning from the war, he married Clara Nell Ray, also of Texarkana, and they moved to Houston where he attended Rice University. After completing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1948, Paul was accepted to the South Texas College of Law, graduating with honors in 1950. Following a short tenure at Stewart Title, he was hired as in-house counsel for George Mitchell and Associates. When that company became Mitchell Energy and Development Corporation, he started the legal department for Mitchell and by the time he retired in 1989, he was serving as Secretary of the Board and General Counsel. Following retirement, he reentered the private practice of law and served until 1996 as General Counsel for GPM, Inc. He also served on the Board of Directors of Stewart Title of Montgomery County. Paul is preceded in death by his two brothers, Morris and Ben, and two sisters, Ann and Marguerite. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nell; his two sons, Bill and wife Dee Dee of San Antonio, and Chris and wife Susan of Waco; three grandchildren, Colton, Alexandria and Chase; several nieces and nephews and numerous friends. One of Paul's proudest achievements was the legal work required in the acquisition of thousands of acres in South Montgomery County encompassed in the development of The Woodlands, TX. He was a member and former deacon of First Baptist Church of The Woodlands. He loved the practice of law and adored his family. His influence on both will be greatly missed. A graveside service for family only is to be conducted Saturday, November 24, at 11:00 a.m. at Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe, TX.
