Phyllis Murphy was born on July 26, 1952, in Giddings, Texas, to Marjorie Jeanette and Otis Barton Faske. She was the oldest of ten children and naturally grew into her lifelong role as a leader, caregiver, and encourager.
Phyllis graduated from Tomball High School in 1970, and the following year, on June 12, she married the love of her life, Richard “Jerry” Murphy. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion. They were blessed with two children: Steven Richard, born in March 1974, and Diane Jeannette, born in April 1977.
A proud Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, Phyllis poured her heart into her family and community. She was a devoted homemaker who loved to cook and also worked in school child nutrition, caring for countless children over the years.
As a mother and grandmother, Phyllis would do anything for her children and grandkids. She was always their biggest supporter, present at football and baseball games, birthdays, and every important moment. Whatever the occasion, she was there—with a smile, encouragement, and endless love.
Phyllis and Jerry made their home on Dermott Street in Houston, in the house they built together, where they shared many happy memories until Jerry’s passing in 2020. She was a lifelong Lutheran and a dedicated member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, where she raised her family in faith, served her community, and lived out her love for the Lord through kindness and service. In later years, she also attended West Conroe Baptist Church with family and friends.
Phyllis was a quirky, headstrong, and deeply loving woman who embraced life with a strong spirit and a sharp wit. She loved traveling with Jerry, spending time with her large and loving family, and doting on her cherished fur babies, Bonnie and Buddy. She also loved to travel, sing, shop, read, cook and spend time at the lake house on Lake Limestone, and listening to her favorite ’60s and ’70s music.
Phyllis passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, in Conroe, Texas. She is now rejoicing in Heaven, reunited with her beloved husband, Jerry; her parents; and many family members—resting in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Margie and Otis Faske; brothers, Clifton and David Faske; sister, Brenda Robinson; sisters-in-law, Patricia Lilly and Josie Murphy; brothers-in-law, Freddie Murphy, Ron Myers, and Don Frankum; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
She is survived by her son, Steven, and his wife Jackie Murphy of Illinois; daughter, Diane, and her husband Tim Wilson of Texas; and her beloved grandchildren, Tyler, Brandon, Dustin, Cody, Andrew, and Madison. She is also survived by her sisters, Carol Myers of Oklahoma; Linda and Bob Russell of Oklahoma; Kathy Frankum of Oklahoma; Susan and her husband Kelly Miller of Oklahoma; Martha and her husband Keith Barbee of Oklahoma; her brother, Otis Glenn and his wife Rhonda Faske of Oklahoma; her brother in law Paul Robinson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Phyllis’s quirky, headstrong, and whimsical spirit—her faith, laughter, and love—will live on in every heart she touched.
