He is survived by his son, Darren Gillis and wife Raechelle; daughter, Dana Wheeler and husband Bryan; son, John Gillis and his girlfriend Kaylee; sister, Diane Gillis Cegielski, brother, Glenn Gillis; He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Skylar Jordan, Hudson Wheeler, Grant Wheeler, Ramsey Gillis, and DJ, with a grandson on the way. David was a kind-hearted, loyal, and deeply passionate man. He loved big, especially his family, and it showed in every part of his life. He took great pride in his work as a plumber and later as an inspector. He cherished time spent hunting and especially loved being at the deer lease. Anything outdoors was where he felt most at home.
Above all, he treasured his grandbabies and the time he spent with them. He had many friends and was loved by many, leaving behind a legacy of strength, faith, and devotion to those he held dear.
Though he is no longer with us on this earth, we take comfort in knowing he is at peace in the presence of the Lord, restored and whole, and that we will see him again.
We give thanks for the gift of David’s life and for the faith that sustained him. As we grieve, we do not grieve without hope, trusting in God’s promise of eternal life and the resurrection to come. May his soul rest in everlasting peace and may all who loved him find comfort in knowing that he now rests in God’s perfect love, watching over us until the day we are reunited.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 beginning at 10:00am at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas with a reception to follow.
