Richard Paul Hetmaniak, affectionately known as "Happie," was born on February 7, 1954, in Houston, Texas, and peacefully passed away on August 20, 2025, in Conroe, Texas, surrounded by his loving wife and children.
A proud graduate of Sam Houston High School, Richard began his career at Rheem Manufacturing, then went on to work at Cameron Iron Works before dedicating 26 years to serving and protecting his community with the Houston Police Department—a legacy of commitment that earned him admiration and respect from many.
Richard was an extraordinary father, Papi, son, brother, and uncle. He was often found on the back porch, cup of coffee in hand, watching the outdoors and reminiscing with his best friend, Shannon Kemp. His heart was full when cheering on his grandson Chase at soccer games, watching his granddaughter Brylee shine in cheer competitions, and hearing about the remarkable achievements of his eldest granddaughter Kayla at Baylor University.
Known for his joyful spirit and quick wit, Richard never failed to bring laughter and smiles to those around him. His love for the outdoors was a cornerstone of his life, teaching his children and grandchildren the joys of hunting and fishing, and sharing his passion for the Astros.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Frank Hetmaniak; his mother and father in-law, Reva and John Moore; and his brother, Tommy Hetmaniak. He is lovingly survived by his wife of 50 years, Marie Hetmaniak; his son, Jeremy Hetmaniak; his daughter, Krista Bendele-Williams; son-in-law, Shawn Williams; grandchildren Kayla Hetmaniak, Chase Hetmaniak, and Brylee Bendele; sisters-in-law Sharon Hetmaniak; sisters Donna and Frank Sralla and Becky and Joe Tarnowski; brothers William and Marietta Hetmaniak and Charles and Leona Hetmaniak; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 10:00 am, at Cashner Funeral Home with visitation to begin one hour prior. Entombment will follow at Garden Park Cemetery in the Mausoleum.
Richard's legacy of love, laughter, and service will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
"You need not fear the terror of the night
Nor the arrow that flies by day
Though thousands fall about you, near you they shall not come...
And He will raise you up on eagles' wings
Bear you on the breath of dawn
Make you to shine like the sun
And hold you in the palm of His hands."
