

Robert Wayne Yates went to be with the Lord on December 4, 2010. He was born on June 26, 1932 in Waldron, Arkansas to Ted and Amy Yates. He moved to Houston in 1951, and then proudly served the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Robert leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 56 years, Doris Budler Yates and five children: Brenda Bright and husband David, Robbie Yates and wife Peggy, both of Pasadena, Kathy Evans and husband Charlie, Patty Steinke and husband David, both of Friendswood and John Yates of Conroe. Affectionately known as Grandpa, Robert leaves grandchildren, Michael Bright and wife Crystal, Amy Yanez and husband Jared, both of La Porte, Crystal Evans, Jarrett Branch and Caitlin Yates of Pasadena, CJ Evans, Wayne and Ian Steinke and Karol Baker of Friendswood. Robert also leaves great grandchildren, Taylor and Andrew Bright, Alyssa and Haley Yanez of La Porte and Channing Baker of Friendswood. He will be missed by his brothers and sister, Edward Yates and wife Sharon of Waldron, Arkansas, Phillip Yates and wife Rosemary of Friendswood, Tina Yates of Sacramento and business partner and nephew, Gerald (Bubba) Yates of Seabrook. Robert was a part of a close knit family that includes many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Amy Yates, and his brothers, Glyn, Buddy and Allen Yates.
Robert and Doris resided in Pasadena from 1960 to 1986 and then moved to enjoy their property in Conroe. They have been active members of the congregation of First Christian Church of Conroe for over ten years.
Robert was a man of many interests and businesses. He owned and operated Queen Oaks Cleaners, Yates Motor Company, and Yates Trucking Company. He also invested in commercial real estate and was a partner in Y & Y Properties. He believed in giving those with ambition a helping hand and did so quite often. Robert had a strong entrepreneur spirit that he shared with others. He loved to hunt, fish and most of all spend time with his family. He was a strong man with a big heart and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services for Robert will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. in Cashner Colonial Chapel with Pastor Wes Morgan and Phillip Yates officiating. Interment will follow in Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, December 7, 2010 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home. Robert’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
