Ross was born October 26, 1950 to Clarence "Ted" and Helen Weeks Springer in Houston, Texas. Ross had many opportunities to live around the world beginning at the age of 10, when his family lived across the street from the US Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This was guarded by a US Marine Detachment, and influenced his desire of joining the military.
Later in high school in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, Ross met Congressman (later Senator) James T. Broyhill and expressed his desire to attend the US Naval Academy. He did receive his appointment from Congressman Broyhill and entered the Academy in April of 1969. After graduating in June 1973, he received a commission as an ensign in the US Navy. Ross suffered a tibia/fibula fracture while on deployment and was evacuated to Naples, Italy for surgery. He received seven surgeries prior to his release from service.
During his naval career, Ross was fortunate to visit interesting places, all of which influenced his decision to work in the world's oilfields. Ross worked in Libya, Yemen, Columbia, Venezuela, Peru, Argentina, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
Ross is survived by his wife of 34 years, Cheryl Springer, and his beloved daughter, Hillary "Paige Springer. The family enjoyed many trips abroad and his love of travel was deeply shared by wife and daughter. He is also survived by sister Sharon James of College Station, and brother Jon of Houston, Texas. Mother-in-law Sue Endebrock of Cisco, Texas, sisters-in-law Carol Endebrock of Ft Worth, and Lisa Stroebel of Stephenville, Texas, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
